Answering the Great Commission is the thrust of evangelism. God calls each of us, as individuals, to go out two-by-two. “Going out” doesn’t have to mean all should become preachers. Rather, evangelists are those who willingly and outwardly share the joy of life as children of God made possible by the sacrifice of Christ and the advocacy of the Holy Spirit.
Evangelism functions as we act upon each of the following ways our relationship with God through Christ impacts us:
- Acknowledge the source of our joys
- Celebrate the reasons for our hope
- Make decisions based on the trust in our faith
- Express comfort in our worries in every moment of our lives.
While some may choose to preach the above from the pulpit, others may teach it in the workplace, voice it in their coffee shop encounters, or simply live it in their careers.
In promoting evangelism, the function of the church is not merely to evangelise as an organization, but to encourage and empower each individual, other as we seek to individually respond to the Great Commission.
